Q. Where are you located?
A. We are located in St Louis, Missouri
Q. What area do you service?
A. While we generally service the metropolitan St Louis Area, we will consider serving clients outside of this area, if the project requires.
Q. What do you make your doors from?
A. All of our doors are made from hard wood. Most doors in our area are constructed from White Oak or Sapele (a type of Mahogany). Other hard wood varieties may be available at client's request, with considerations as to how the door will be used.
Q. What kind of maintenance is required?
A. All wood doors finish require regular maintenance. Generally, we recommend you apply a new coat of sealer within 8 to 12 months of install/recoat. Doors that receive a great amount of sun and weather exposure will require more frequent care. In some cases paint is the best option for a heavily weather-affected door.
Q. What finishes do you use?
A. The decision to paint or stain a door really comes down to the client's preference. For stained doors, we use several methods to stain the door to the color desired and the approriate sealer for protection. We will also paint a door matching an existing color as best as possible. High levels of sun exposure as well as other harsh weather conditions will be considered when determining the best finish for your door. We are happy to make a recommendation, however the ultimate decision is yours and we will honor your wishes.
Q. Do you warranty your doors?
A. All our doors are warrantied for workmanship and construction, for as long as you own your home. Unfortunately, we cannot warranty the finish nor the hardware of your door as those products have their own warranties.
Q. Who installs your doors?
A. We do. We will custom make your door, and install it as well. We are also happy to work with local building contractors who may wish to install the door themselves.
Q. How much are your doors?
A. It is best to perform an estimate to account for all possible item(s) needed to install a new door. In general the round, shallow arch or gothic top wooden storm door start around $2500.00. That is competative with an aluminum round top storm door. A round top or shallow arch entry door can start around $4500.00. Glass, hardware, and size will change the final cost, so again an estimate is required. We also do square doors and storm doors with a lower starting amount, however an estimate will still be needed.
Q. Why are Rhodes Ave. Doors more expensive than a home improvement store?
A. Unlike the "big box" door manufacturers, we are a one man custom door building shop. Each component of the door from the stiles to the panels are all custom made from scratch. This requires a lot of time creating these doors.
Our doors are custom manufactured to your exact design specifications. We manufacture the parts, test fit the parts, and assemble the door we create for your. The hardware and glass installations are performed towards the end, and finish/sealer are applied by hand.
Q. Are you insured
A. Yes, we carry insurance.
Q. Can I get references?
A. Yes, references are available upon request.
